We are honored to once again to receive a design award from the Mayor of Denver. Our first award in 2007 was for “Wicked Little Details” for our first Snooze location in the Ballpark neighborhood. As you can see, we have received a handful over the years — we absolutely love our city, and breathing new life into old buildings.
“Whether they are big or small, buildings or art, homes or commercial buildings – these projects truly represent the Denver that we know and love,” Mayor Hancock said about the winners.
Denver’s historic Oxford Hotel is home to Urban Farmer — the steakhouse where Western rancher and art collector meet. The restaurant’s design concept blends history and agriculture, with cosmopolitan refinement. The space’s historic significance is respected and preserved, then enhanced with a warm palette, rich over-dyed leather throughout, and pops of color for added whimsy. Contemporary spins on Western classics enhance the space with romanticism — steel spindled walnut dining chairs, oxidized brass light fixtures reminiscent of steer horns, and large hoop chandeliers.

We really loved helping Lauren Bailey and Craig DeMarco bring their Arizona WineCafe concept to Denver. Colorado is a perfect fit for this team, and we love their focus on repurposing old buildings. This particular building was the former Denver Book Bindery, which our book wall is a nod to. Xan visited their existing locations in Arizona in order to get a feel for their established brand. We enjoy the challenge of integrating an existing brand with a fresh take on the design of the space. Check out the photos, then go get a glass of wine!
Xan has worked with Drew Shader on two locations now, we also designed the South Broadway restaurant. We love transforming old buildings and giving them new life. The goal was to maintain the beauty of the crusty old structure while adding branded finishes. We want the space to feel like it has a lived in quality, that it belongs to the neighborhood. The branded elements created in the initial restaurants are switched up to bring in variation between locations — the neon cowboy, bombs and spacemen have changed, while still feeling like the same business. Loyal patrons will feel right at home.
The 21 year old, Great Divide Brewing Company has a new canning facility and Barrel Bar. It is on Brighton Blvd., in the RiNo district and it’s ready for public consumption! For the past two years, Xan has worked closely with GD’s Brian Dunn in managing the creation and construction of this amazing accomplishment. Xan’s role was to provide consultation and guidance around the architecture, construction and design of this large development. We are proud to be a part of the awesome team at Great Divide and look forward to phase two of the property in the future.
When Lauren and her Postino business partner Craig decided to expand their Arizona Restaurant group to Denver, they chose Xan to design their space in the Highlands. This project is a good example of how Xan can take an established brand and evolve it to feel right at home here in Denver. Take a look at the space coming together, the location is amazing, in the old book binding building. I remember buying waxed thread there to finish a book project of my own!
Xan has been working with Great Divide for the past eight years! We are honored to be playing the role of Creative Advocate for their growing facility on Brighton Boulevard.
